Fred Cluett dons a black top hat and overcoat to help him step into the role of a famous, but not always well-liked, character for Bay Theatre’s upcoming Christmas show.
“Ebenezer Scrooge is a mean, mean character. He’s nasty throughout almost all of the play,” said Mr. Cluett.
“I’m not a mean guy, so it’s a tough role to play.”
The theatre troupe is teaming up with Stephenville Arts and Culture Centre to present “A Christmas Carol,” an adaptation of Charles Dickens’ novel by playwright Jeff Pitcher.
“There’s a bit of humour in it – and it’s a tight script, so it’s a bit shorter than what some people might be used to,” said Michael Fenwick, the play’s director.
He noted special lighting and sound effects help to tell the story of the miserly Mr. Scrooge and visits by three ghosts of Christmas.
“A Christmas Carol” takes to the stage on Dec. 7 at 7 p.m., and Dec. 8 at 2 p.m. For more information or tickets, call the box office at 643-4553.
