A man living in Stephenville has been arrested and charged with making death threats against seven police officers.
William Joseph Brake faces a total of 23 charges, all dated March 5, including 11 charges of uttering threats to cause death (he allegedly threatened several of the officers multiple times as well as one individual not identified with a rank).
In addition to the charges of uttering threats to cause death, he faces charges for threatening to burn property of four police officers and a threat to cause serious bodily harm against a civilian. He is also charged with resisting arrest, three counts of failure to comply with an undertaking and three counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
The alleged probation violations refer to two separate probation orders — one set out for Brake on Nov. 16, 2009 in this province and one set Sept. 30, 2010 in Red Lake provincial court in Ontario.
Court documents state, in regards to the charges of uttering threats, two of the alleged statements were made to another member of the public while the rest were told to various police officers.
RCMP in Stephenville have stated they were called by Brake at about 5:15 a.m. They have alleged he stated "that he was planning to kill several members of the RCMP in the Bay St. George area."
In response, police went to Brake's home in Stephenville where he was arrested "without injuring police or any member of the public."
