The new Caterpillar 246C Skid Steer recently purchased by the Town of Stephenville is a versatile machine.
Mike Campbell, town manager, recently told council members at a town council meeting the piece of equipment has a large variety of usages because of the number of attachments that were purchased with the machine.
One attachment is a snow blower, which is currently being used to clear sidewalks and widen smaller streets in town.
Another is a snow blade, which is used early in the winter season and at times when snow is light and can be easily plowed.
A bucket attachment will be used mainly in the summer time when the Skid Steer will be in service for road, water and sewer and landscaping work.
Another attachment purchased by the town is forks, which is used for loading and unloading materials and supplies at the public works depot and other town facilities.
The final attachment is a cold planer, which will be used for asphalt repair and maintenance.
Mr. Campbell said the total cost of this piece of equipment, including all attachments, was $115,000 and replaces a machine that was taken out of service a number of years ago.
