Until you actually see the Petermann Ice Island up close and personal, it’s hard to imagine just how big it really is.

The giant slab of Greenland ice broke away from the larger Petermann Glacier about a year ago and is now floating only a handful of miles off of St. Anthony.

The Northern Pen’s Juris Graney recently hopped in a local tour boat to see the island for himself. He’ll explain just how big this berg is in Tuesday’s Telegram.

Until then, take a look at Graney’s photos by clicking here.
