Betty and Gene Follett of Robinsons had recently lost a precious family pet when their dog, Miso, was hit by a car and died.

In January they saw a dog just like her featured in SCAPA’s “Furever Friends” in the Georgian, so they headed in to Stephenville to see about adopting her.

Then they met Shakey, and fell in love with this sweet little soul.

Shakey had been found wandering the streets in October. Flea-bitten, injured and terrified, he got his name because he was trembling from the cold and his extreme fear of people.

SCAPA volunteers managed to coax him with some food so they could rescue him from the streets, and after a visit to the vet he was up for adoption at the shelter. But it was clear that Shakey had been severely traumatized, because whenever he saw someone holding a camera or cell phone he cowered and trembled in fear.

When Betty and Gene heard his story, they knew he was the one they would take home with them. “He was the one who needed the most love,” says Betty.

Now this sweet little dog has a forever home. He has two puppy pals, Coco and Rusty, and a warm safe place to sleep every night.

“We’re so glad we adopted him,” says Betty. “We renamed him Skip, because he doesn’t shake anymore.”

There are many more furever friends available for adoption right now at SCAPA. To find out more about how you can bring home a new family member, call 643-2811. Can’t adopt a pet? You can also support SCAPA by volunteering or fundraising. Call today for more information.
