Georgina Ogden’s gaze is squarely on the corner pocket.
She leans forward and drives her stick forward into the cue ball, which in turn knocks the eight ball into the pool table’s far hole.
It’s another win for this 75-year-old Silver Dollar Lounge Ladies Pool League member, who’s just marked her 35th year with the league.
“I love it,” she says. “I enjoy going out and meeting the girls and having fun with them. If I win, that’s OK. If I don’t win, that’s OK, too.”
Ms. Ogden started shooting pool in 1978 while working at the Royal Canadian Legion in Stephenville. She joined a league five years later and has been playing regularly ever since.
She’s currently ranked third in averages in the Kippens 10-member league. Last year she finished fourth.
Perhaps her biggest win came two years ago when she paired up with Patricia Woodrow to not only sweep regular season play, but also win the league championships.
“She plays a good game, that’s for sure,” says Ms. Woodrow.
Ms. Ogden doesn’t mind sharing what’s she has learned over the years, and will offer tips when asked to do so.
Even though she’s the league’s most senior member, Ms. Ogden has no plans to give up the game any time soon.
“I said I’d play pool until I couldn’t hold the stick any more. Well, I said that when I was 60, and here I am now,” she says, with a chuckle.
