Megan Elliott, a Grade 12 student at Stephenville High School, has been named the winner of the 2011 Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Semi-final Regional High School Speaking Contest.

The event was recently held in Stephenville at the Santa Maria building with five students representing area high schools, along with their parents, teachers, friends and members of the Knights of Columbus in attendance.

Kelsey King, a Grade 12 student at Appalachia High School, was named 1st runner up; while Andrea Bennett, a Grade 10 student at Appalachia High School was named 2nd runner-up.

Awards were presented to all participants by Sir Knight Tom Hughes and Sir Knight Baden Clouter, speak-off chairman. Ms. Elliott now moves to the provincial finals held in Bishop Falls on April 9.
