Receiving the Governor General's medal close to a year after her own graduation was a real honour for Cindy Kendall, a graduate of the office administration program at College of the North Atlantic in Stephenville.
She graduated from the two-year program in the spring of 2012 and when the call came for her to attend Thursday's graduation to accept the medal, she was surprised and elated.
"There are times that I really miss school as it is such a large part of your life. I actually miss doing schoolwork and the many relationships that I developed with other students," she said.
"I made a lot of good friends when I was there but it's hard to maintain relationships when you get out working and living a different life."
She wasn't long landing work after completing her college course and the Flat Bay resident is new a Clerk Typist 2 worker with Western Health, providing clerical relief to medical clinics from Stephenville right out to Jeffreys in Bay St. George South.
In addition to being named to the Honour's Society at the college, she was the recipient of a President's Medal and was valedictorian at her graduation.
She was presented the certificate that accompanies the Governor General's Medal at the 2013 College of the North Atlantic's Spring Graduation held at the Stephenville Arts and Culture Centre on Thursday.
