It’s been a point of interest for residents and visitors to Stephenville for almost 14 years. But now’s the time for change.
The town clock, located at the corner of Main and Queen Streets, has not been operating lately. Instead of forking over money for repeated repairs, Stephenville Rotary Club, the owners, are opting to replace the timepiece.
“The clock has served us well,” said Don Gibbon, town councillor and honorary Rotarian. “But it’s gotten too expensive to maintain.”
He said each time the current clock is in need of service it costs the Rotary Club in excess of $1,200.
Mary Lambert-Skinner, Rotary president, said the repair bills have added up during the past few years, so a decision was made late in 2010 to install a new clock.
“We have the clock ordered and we’re hoping to have it installed within the month,” she said, noting it would be in the same style as the previous model.
