A cabin in the community of Fox Island River was destroyed in a fire last Thursday.
Const. Todd Davidson of the Stephenville RCMP said the detachment received a call shortly after 7 a.m. that a building was on fire in the community and by the time members arrived the building was engulfed in flames with firefighters on the scene from the Port au Port East Volunteer Fire Department.
It was Const. Davidson’s understanding the owner of the property was out of the province and officers were unable to reach him on the day of the fire.
Firefighter Kyran Hynes said firefighters arrived within 15 minutes of the call fiding the fire well underway and too far along for them to save the building.
A fire investigator was expected to be on the scene either Thursday evening or Friday morning to try and determine the cause of the fire.
A number of items, such as all terrain vehicles, a ride-on lawnmower and a snowmobile, all contained in a garage area of the structure, were destroyed.
