Appalachia High hosts year-end awards ceremony

Appalachia High School in St. George’s held year-end award ceremony at the school on Thursday.

Top student awards were presented to Tyler Bennett, senior student of the year; and Andrea Bennett, intermediate student of the year.

Four students were presented athlete of the year awards: Mitchell Cormier, intermediate male; Simon Sheppard, senior male; Samantha Curnew, senior female; and Andrea Bennett, intermediate female.

The recently established Zackery St. Croix Memorial Award for “dedication, determination, good humour and a zest for life” was presented to Andrea Bennett, the first recipient, from Zackery’s parents Lori McFatridge and Eugene St. Croix. Zachery died in an all terrain vehicle accident on May 25.

A host of other awards and scholarships were also presented at the event.
