The provincial government is planning improvements for a section of highway in the Noel’s Pond area near Stephenville.
The Department of Transportation and Works will hold two open house public information sessions for the public to view the plan and to ask questions of department officials.
The sessions will be held on Wednesday, July 27, at the Holiday Inn in Stephenville from 2 to 5 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
“This section of (Hansen Highway) in the Noel’s Pond area is prone to frequent flooding, and has long been a concern to area residents,” said Tom Hedderson, transportation and works minister, in a release. “The plan we have developed will see this section of road realigned to avoid the flood prone area and to improve traffic flow in the region.”
The plan calls for the realignment of Route 460 to divert the highway around a flood prone area near Noel’s Pond and to upgrade a section of the highway at Gull Pond. The total length of the proposed realignment is approximately 5.6 kilometres.
“I am pleased that the Department of Transportation and Works has studied this issue and developed a plan by which to address it,” said Joan Burke, education minister and MHA for St. George’s-Stephenville East, in the same release.
The necessary survey and design work for the realignment is expected to begin over the coming months.
