Stephenville area residents and visitors are being reminded to properly secure their vehicles and not leave valuables in cars due to a rash of recent thefts.

The RCMP say thieves are targeting unlocked vehicles in the Stephenville area and are stealing anything of value from inside.

The police say this is an ongoing problem in most communities, but Stephenville has seen an increase of this activity in the last week. Thefts have been reported from Gallant Street through to Queen Street.

They are asking that anyone parking their vehicle to lock the doors of their vehicle. Also, it is never advisable to have valuables left in the vehicle, and especially not to leave anything of value in sight.

Anyone with information regarding these thefts is asked to call the Bay St George RCMP at 643-2118 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
