A 41-year-old man from Piccadilly has been arrested for allegedly breaching a court order, for being in the company of persons under the age of 16. The arrest was made Monday night, after police removed two girls from a crawl space in his home.
Police say the girls, aged 12 and 13, had been given alcohol, but were otherwise physically unharmed.
The RCMP went to the man’s home shortly after 8:30 p.m., after receiving an anonymous complaint that the man was in violation of his undertaking and had two girls in his house.
In a news release, the RCMP stated officers saw the man and the two young people through a window. They went to the door.
The man was arrested upon answering the door.
Following that, with no sign of the girls, police entered the home and searched the area where the girls were seen.
They were found in a hidden compartment, under the floorboards of the living room.
The girls were brought to their parents.
The RCMP has since teamed with Child, Youth and Family Services on the file and are conducting interviews.
Meanwhile, the 41-year-old was held in custody for a court appearance today in Stephenville. The case has been set over to Thursday.
