Layoff. Cutback. Severity. Decline. Worsening. Downturn. Loss. Slump. Swept away. Eliminate. Foreclosure. Bankrupt.

These are just some of the words bandied about as the woes of a recession spread through almost every sector of international, national, provincial and local economies.

While we must face the hardened economy and do what we can to ensure it ends as quickly as possible, it's also good to take a breather and escape from the realities of life.

Layoff. Cutback. Severity. Decline. Worsening. Downturn. Loss. Slump. Swept away.

And lucky for residents of the Stephenville area, there is a new place to go for a couple hours of entertainment and enjoyment. Well, it's not so much new - but revamped, repackaged and re-opened. The local movie house.

The Georgian editorial team took in a show on opening night. And while it was an impressive evening out, we think some people need a little primer on the do's and don'ts of theatre going or any public event. Even if you're not so inclined to go to a movie (but we recommend you do), it might be wise to save and pass along the following list to somebody else:

Find out when the show starts and get there early. You'll be more likely to get your ticket, the seat you want and be less of a disruption to others;

One you've found your seat, stay there. If your seat is unsuitable, switch before the show starts. If you think you'll need to get up during the show, pick an aisle seat to minimize distractions for other people;

Turn off your cell phone and other noise making devices. Or at least put them on mute or vibrate. And if you need to make or take a call, quietly get up and do it outside;

You say it best when you say nothing at all. For the sake of everybody around you, refrain from talking or whispering;

Don't bring kids to see a movie they wouldn't understand or that wouldn't keep their attention. As well, there's hardly anything more annoying than a youngster with the gift of gab;

Clean up after yourself. Throw your trash in the proper containers;

If you have a problem or concern, don't hesitate to talk to an usher or manager. It's their job to make sure the venue itself is pleasant and enjoyable for all patrons.

See you at the show!
