Three members of the 708 Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron in Stephenville scored their team a bronze medal during a relay race at the recent National Cadet Biathlon Championship in Valcartier, QC.

Cadets Hannah Stokes, Rita-Jane St. Croix and Sabrina Muise finished the race with a time of 1:42:55.6. Hannah finished her leg of the race in 34:46.8 with three misses. Rita-Jane finished her leg in 33:53.1 with three misses. Sabrina Musie finished her leg in 34:15.7 with eight misses.

Although biathlon is an individual sport, teamwork is required in the relay race. At the simultaneous departure, each biathlete must propel themselves 30 metres, using only their poles, after which they can use the skating technique. The relay zone is an area of 30 metres where the competitors must pass the relay to the following athlete by tagging them somewhere on their body without using skis or poles. The race is 4.5 km with two shooting bouts of five rounds for each competitor.
