While the competition was tough, all 11 members of the Stephenville Athletics Running Club competing at the Atlantic Track and Field Championships scored personal-best finishes.
“It was awesome,” said Abigail Penton of the games. “The competition was really hard.”
Abigail scored a fifth place finish with a time of 13.98 in the 100-m race, and a seventh place finish in the 200-m with a time of 28.60.
She and Jillian Forsey competed in the female 16-17-year-old category.
Jillian won the 800-m with a time of 2:20.69 and also won the 1,500-m run with a time of 4:50.41.
Alysha Chaulk and Rita Jane St. Croix competed in the female 14-15-year-old races. Alysha came in eighth place in the 100-m with a time of 14.26 and fifth place in the 200-m with a time of 28.63 seconds.
Rita Jane scored third place in the 1,200-m with a time of 4:05.35.
Katara White competed in the female 12-13-year-old category. She finished fifth in the 150-m with a time of 21.81, a seventh place finish in the 800-m with a finish of 2:52.91, and a fourth place standing in the 1,200-m with a time of 4:39.18.
In the male competitions, William Forsey competed in the 18-19-year-old category. He scored second in the 1,500-m with a time of 4:18.62, and a first place finish in the 5,000-m with a finish of 17:31.27.
Michael Gilbert and Anthony Gillis competed in the 16-17-year-old division. Michael placed third in the long jump with a distance of 5.61-m and a second place finish in the triple jump with a finish of 12.02-m.
Anthony scored two fifth place finishes in the long jump with distances of 4.88-m and 10.75-m.
Christopher Cooze competed in the 16-17-year-old races. He finished fifth in the 100-m with a time of 12.25 seconds, and 12th in the 200-m with a time of 25.62 seconds.
Donovan White competed in the 14-15-year-old division. He scored 11th in the 100-m with a time of 14.06, eighth in the 200-m with a finish of 27.99, and fifth in the 300-m with a time of 45.93.
Jesse Byrne competed in the 12-13-year-old races. He came in sixth place in the 150-m with a time of 20.30, first in the 800-m with a finish of 2:22.92, and another first in the 1,200-m with a time of 3:42.06.
All results were personal-best times, with the exception of Jillian’s 800-m race, Anthony’s 4.88-m long jump, Donovan’s 100-m race, and Katara’s 800-m race.
